Anna DOHERTY

 

• Archaeologist: Roman and prehistoric pottery specialist

Research Interests
• Roman and prehistoric pottery, particularly in our key areas of work in Kent and Sussex
• Through many of our recent commercial and research projects I have developed a particular interest in transitional Late Iron Age to Roman assemblages

Professional Skills
• Recording and analysis of Roman and prehistoric pottery assemblages. Including all stages of analysis from spot-dating and quantification to the production of assessment and publication reports.

Career Summary
2007 - present - Archaeologist, ASE. Responsible for recording and reporting on Roman and prehistoric pottery.
2006 - 2007 - English Heritage EPPIC placement holder in Roman ceramics.
2000 - 2005 - Site assistant / assistant supervisor at various archaeological units including Oxford Archaeology, English Heritage, Northamptonshire Archaeology, Network Archaeology, Pre-construct Archaeology, and ASE.

Qualifications
• 2005 - MA Ceramic and lithic analysis for archaeologists. University of Southampton
• 2000 - BA Archaeology. University of Liverpool

Membership of Learned Societies and Professional Recognition
• Member of the study group for Roman pottery



Key Projects
Roman Pottery from the 1964-73 Ancaster Cemetery Excavations: Reassessment of the large Roman assemblage from Ancaster in Lincolnshire, providing valuable experience of working on backlog projects and integrating pottery data with archived stratigraphic information. As part of this project I also produced a major report for publication.

Town & Country in Roman Essex: Contribution to a major English Heritage funded project involving both the collection pottery data from archive sources and the reassessment of key well-dated groups from many of the regionally and nationally important Late Iron Age and Roman assemblages excavated in the county over the last thirty years

Owmby, Lincolnshire: An assessment of part of a very large field walked assemblage. This project involved adapting methodologies for assessing Roman pottery to examine effects of plough-damage on surface assemblages.
