Professional Placements
ASE contributes to a series of programmes of professional placements, developing technical and professional skills within the workplace.

Current and recent programmes include:

EPPIC Placement in Archaeological Ceramics
Archaeology South-East, hosted an EPPIC placement in archaeological ceramics in 2006-2007. EPPIC (English Heritage Professional Placements in Conservation) placements are the result of a partnership between English Heritage, IFA and IHBC.

The EPPIC scheme aims to address identified archaeological skills gaps, build capacity within the heritage sector and create opportunities for all sectors of the community to gain professional skills. The placements are designed for those with some experience of historic environment practice, but who have not yet had the opportunity to develop more specialist skills and competencies. Placements are structured around the National Occupational Standards in Archaeological Practice, enabling trainees to record evidence towards a vocational qualification.

Impact - English Heritage's Annual review covers EPPIC Placement in Romano-British Ceramics and the Traineeship in Historic Building Recording (See below)

Traineeship in Historic Building Recording
The English Heritage funded Rape of Hastings Architectural Survey which is due to start in 2007, will include a funded traineeship in Historic Building Recording and Interpretation. Work will focus on vernacular architecture of Sussex, and will take place within the Historic Environment Team of Archaeology South-East.

Graduate and Undergraduate Internships within Archaeology South-East
ASE both organises and hosts student internships, principally for students undertaking graduate courses at the Institute of Archaeology (e.g. the MA in Field Archaeology) but it can also provide in-service training programmes for students of other Universities where there are suitable opportunities. We are particularly keen to explore exchange opportunities.
